About Us

Mîýomâcihêwi Kamik, also referred to as The Northern Nations Wellness Centre, is one that that respects the cultural values and practices that are integral to Indigenous identities and wellness. We are committed to a proactive holistic approach to health and wellness, and to the delivery of services which are sustainable and honour the customs and traditions of the Saulteau and West Moberly communities near Chetwynd, BC.

Our Centre aims to provide comprehensive, wrap-around care, addressing known gaps in regional health services such as chronic disease management, mental health and substance use treatment, and the integration of traditional wellness practices. This model ensures that services are culturally safe, trauma-informed, and holistic, treating the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. Services include Family Physician Services, Mental Health and Wellness, Diet and Nutrition services, Traditional Wellness, Land Based Healing.

Team-Based Primary
Care

All team members collaborate to provide integrated, seamless care. Responsibilities include maintaining a single client care plan, attending morning huddles, circle of care meetings, and workflow meetings, as well as participating in training and development to improve care quality.

In addition, physicians, allied health professionals, and those focused on traditional wellness practices are expected to:

  • Recognize and Value Both Western and Traditional Medicine: Respect and acknowledge the importance of both medical approaches, ensuring they are treated as complementary rather than conflicting.
  • Advocate for Integrated Care: Actively support the inclusion of traditional healing practices alongside western medical treatments to provide comprehensive care options.
  • Provide Patient-Centered Choices: Collaborate to ensure patients have access to diverse care options, empowering them to choose the best approach for their unique needs.
  • Deliver Wrap-Around Care: Work together to address all aspects of a patient’s well-being, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, ensuring a holistic approach to treatment.

Our integrated, culturally sensitive care model ensures that all patients benefit from the combined strengths of western and traditional practices, resulting in improved health outcomes and a more inclusive healthcare environment.
